Make sure you leave the clay in the container whenever you’re not playing with it, as it will dry a little bit whenever it’s exposed to the air. Heat the ingredients over medium heat while stirring with a wooden spoon. Place the pot on your stove and turn burner on medium heat. To bake the clay, simply preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and place your clay items on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. How to make clay from soil at home
Another way is to roll the clay out into a long thin roll and cut it with a knife into portions. Once you have the root tabs rolled out you can decide to leave them round or flatten them gently to make a tab shape. The dry fertilizer is mixed together as evenly as possible in a clean dry cup. The cup can be used to sprinkle the dry fertilizer over the flattened ball of clay.
As long as you can tolerate gluten, this clay is safe to eat—it probably just won't taste good. It's a great way to get children into crafts without having to worry about little ones tasting their art. Knead (pound, roll & pull) the clay, adding water until it no longer falls apart. Store in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator. Allow the clay to come to room temp for easy use. Let your finished project dry at room temp for 2 days.
Making Clay Tablets
This involved using water to separate the heavier sand from the clay. Clay can be found in many places and most soil contains some clay. However, most soil contains a small amount of clay and so it is very hard and time consuming to extract clay from it. It will also require a large amount of soil to extract a small amount of clay. To make your own clay, start by mixing 2 parts sand with 1 part water in a bowl. With the clay slurry separated from the sand I then left it for longer to let it separate more from the water, which i then decanted off. I did this each day until the amount off water which had risen above the clay was very small and impossible to easily decant off.

No matter which recipe you use, the process for making hard clay is the same. Once you have formed the clay into the desired shape, it will need to be dried. Drying times will vary depending on the thickness of the clay, but it is typically around 24 hours.

The water will start to dissolve the clay, which will help remove any trapped debris. For instance, you can use a plastic bag with a zipper or a Tupperware container. For extra longevity, place the clay in the refrigerator.
If you want to paint your clay item, you can do that now. Use a paintbrush to add any colors or designs you want. We had very few problems with it and it worked well for emersed grown plants as well. We were happy with these clay root tabs and preferred them over the gelcap with Osmocote.
To form the tablet take the clay, once it has reached a workable consistency, and form it into a rough rectangle. Throughout history these would be different sizes depending on what the tablet was used for. I decided to make a relatively small table which would fit in the palm of my hand. So I formed a sheet about 5mm thick and then inscribed my inscription and then cut around it to give a small rectangle about 45mm by 40mm.
